In India, diarrhea is the leading cause of death in children aged 1 - 5 years old, accounting for 98,000 lives each year. Lack of access to water for washing hands and being uninformed about good hygiene are critical factors encompassing this problem in rural India. Availability of secondary cleaning methods like hand sanitizers do not currently exist in these places. Moreover, the packaging of these hand sanitizers may not be intuitive, approachable or culturally suitable for rural India. With these considerations, a design study was conducted to explore and prototype novel interventions.
